Seoul's adult entertainment industry operates on a vast scale and is almost entirely invisible to foreign visitors. Juicy bars — the most accessible format for foreigners — are concentrated in Itaewon and around US military bases. Women sit with male customers, drink "juice" at bar prices, and negotiate for time after. It's the most foreigner-accessible format and the one that emerged from the American military presence.
Beyond Itaewon, Seoul's entertainment runs through room salons — private room establishments where men pay for the company of women for an evening of drinking and entertainment. These serve the local Korean market and visiting Chinese and Japanese businessmen. They are effectively closed to foreign tourists without a Korean introduction. The prices are high, the culture is specific, and entry without a local connection is difficult.
Hooking up culture in Seoul has expanded significantly with apps — Korean dating apps and Tinder both function, and Seoul has an active bar scene centred around Hongdae, Itaewon, and Gangnam that doesn't operate on a transactional basis. The conventional nightlife is sophisticated, well-designed, and expensive.
Budget for Korea: higher than Southeast Asia, closer to Japan than Thailand. Beer in a bar runs 6,000–10,000 KRW. Everything else scales accordingly.
